My workday at WebMaffia, a digital creative agency in Mumbai, begins with getting a sense of what's happening across my projects. As a Junior Project Manager, I oversee multiple client website projects, which makes keeping track of progress, priorities, and pending tasks an important part of my daily routine.

Starting the Day

I check the daily deliverables first and then the weekly ones to see what is finished, what is in progress and what is stuck. Stuck usually means we are waiting on something from a client, a designer or a developer.

Those are the items I spend the most time on. A delayed deliverable stops being a mystery once I know who is holding it, so a large part of my morning goes into working out who I need to talk to and in what order.

Clients, Feedback and Design

Next I follow up with clients. Usually I am asking for one of three things: feedback on work we have shared, approval to move ahead or content we need to continue. I try to make each message specific. If I only write "any updates?", the client has to guess what I mean. If I name the page and the exact thing I need, they can answer in one reply.

When feedback comes in, I go to the designers. I brief them on what needs to change and what the client actually said. I try not to just forward the message. A comment like "make this section feel cleaner" means very little without the page and the context around it, so I add both before the designer starts. When the revision is ready, I check it against the feedback before it goes back to the client.

Meetings and Getting Things Done

If a client call is scheduled, I join it. I'm there to make sure the requirements are clear, note the decisions that get made and catch anything the client has agreed to send us.

The call is not the end of the work. Afterwards I write the Minutes of Meeting (MoM) and turn the discussion into tasks. Some belong to our team and some to the client. I put a name against each one so nobody leaves the call assuming someone else will handle it.

After lunch I take a short walk, which is the one part of my day.

Working With Developers and the SEO Team

The afternoon is when I spend more time with developers. We talk about ongoing projects and how existing websites could be improved. I bring the project side to those conversations: what the client asked for, what is still pending and where the timeline stands. When we have a proof of concept (POC), I review it. Where needed I also contribute to ongoing development work.

I also work with the SEO team on how we can improve the performance of my projects. A lot of it comes down to inputs that are still pending from clients, so I look for ways to make those requests easier to act on. When something needs more explanation, I prepare a presentation for it.

Beyond Ongoing Projects

Not all my work is on live projects. I also contribute to pitches for website revamps. That means preparing presentation decks, researching competitors and looking at the existing website to see what is not working. I note usability problems and think about how the proposed changes could improve the experience for the person using the site.

It is a different pace from follow-ups and meeting notes, with more looking and comparing.

One Day, Many Kinds of Work

This is one version of a day in the life of a junior project manager at a digital creative agency. What I like about the work is seeing a project from several sides, from the first client message to the finished page.
